November 9, 2025 Thanks to Linda Zoellner, our hostess!
I just attended my third community book club meeting. It is so great to interact with readers! Every time I meet with new readers, I find different outlooks and feedback. It's a real learning experience.
For anyone attending or hosting a book club meeting, preparation is key.
First of all, if you are in charge of hosting a meeting, try to select a book that will be interesting for your group ... one that has a variety of discussion points, even if those points are controversial. As an attendee, be sure to read the book!
Second, make sure that all attendees have the opportunity and time to read the book in advance of the meeting.
Third, prepare a list of relevant questions for the group, whether you are the host, a club member, or the author. They should be open-ended and thought-provoking rather than simple "yes-or-no" questions.
Fourth. if you are the host, be sure to keep the group "on task." The book should be center stage. Don't get hung up on one topic, either. Try to explore how everyone in the group reacted and give them each a chance to participate.
Lastly, have fun with the books and each other!
